The Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood is one of the officially recognized neighborhoods in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. The neighborhood is popular as the home of the Boston Red Sox. In 2019, the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood had an estimated crime rate of 376 violent crimes and 1,524 property crimes per 100,000 persons respectively. Despite these figures, the neighborhood witnessed a downward trend in crimes, compared to the previous year. Overall, the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood is considered relatively safe.

Suffolk County Superior Court

The Suffolk County Superior Court serves the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood and the court handles both criminal and civil matters. Regarding criminal matters, the court has exclusive original jurisdiction over first-degree murder cases and original jurisdiction over other crimes. For civil matters, the court handles cases valued at over $50,000 and cases where a party is seeking equitable relief. The court also hears appeals from certain administrative proceedings and can convene Medical Malpractice Tribunals, among other things.

Central Division, Boston Municipal Court

The Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court serves the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood. The court hears both civil and criminal cases, including small claims up to $7,000 recovery value, contracts and tort actions with a likelihood of below $50,000 recovery, civil motor vehicle violations, and felonies punishable by a maximum five-year sentence, among others.

The Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court is open for limited purposes and hears specific cases in-person. A participant in an in-person hearing may be required by the presiding judge to participate remotely if deemed necessary.

Eastern Housing Court

The Eastern Housing Court has jurisdiction over civil and criminal actions relating to the welfare, health, and safety of the owner or occupant of a residential building. This includes cases involving a breach of contract, property damage, personal injury, and discrimination, among other things.

The Eastern Housing Court conducts most court business remotely. The court has virtual front counters which include the Clerk’s Office virtual front counter and the Housing Specialist Department virtual front counter. Massachusetts Land Court

The Massachusetts Land Court serves the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood. The court has exclusive original and concurrent jurisdictions over matters of real estate. The court has exclusive original jurisdiction over the registration of title to real estate and matters arising from the registration. Regarding the concurrent jurisdiction of the court, the Massachusetts Land Court shares jurisdiction with other courts over matters, including the hearing of petitions for the partition of real estate.

The Suffolk County Juvenile Court in Boston is open but continues to conduct most court business virtually. Unless otherwise stated, cases relating to delinquency and youthful offenders are heard in-person. Other cases may be conducted virtually. In some cases, such as care and protection bench trials, the trial judge has the discretion to handle the case in-person or through virtual hearing. Massachusetts Appeals Court
