The North End neighborhood in Boston, Suffolk County, is still reminiscent of Italian influence, despite modern changes. The neighborhood is considered one of the safest neighborhoods in Boston. Violent and property crime rates in the North-end neighborhood are much lower per 100,000 residents compared to the national average and its crime rate has not witnessed a significant surge in recent times.

The Suffolk County Superior Court is open for limited in-person business. The court has categorized some cases into virtual and in-person hearings and only specific people can visit the courthouse.
The Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court hears certain civil and criminal matters. Such civil matters include small claims for not more than $7,000, violations of cities or towns ordinances and bylaws, contract and tort actions with a recovery limit of $50,000, among others. Felonies with a maximum of a five-year sentence and felonies and misdemeanors with punishments below a state prison sentence may also be brought before the court.

The Massachusetts Land Court is open for limited purposes and the court handles most court business virtually. Drop-in visits to the Recorder’s Office must either be for an emergency case or a pre-scheduled appointment. The court also has a Virtual Recorder’s Office (VRO) to assist parties with the court’s virtual processes and inquiries on in-person visits to the Recorder’s Office. The VRO is available between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, excluding legal holidays.

The Suffolk County Juvenile Court in Boston is open for limited in-person business. Only delinquency and youthful offenders bench trials are heard in-person. All other cases are heard virtually, unless where an in-person hearing is necessary. However, the parties to delinquency or youthful offenders bench trials may agree with the presiding judge for a virtual hearing.
The Suffolk Probate and Family Court entertains family-related and probate matters. This includes adoption matters, guardianship matters, child support, paternity matters, among others.

The Suffolk Probate and Family Court is open for limited in-person business. Except for trials and evidentiary hearings which are heard in-person, all other cases are heard virtually to the extent practicable. The court also has an eFiling platform where parties may file specific cases electronically. Parties may connect with the court’s Virtual Registry for registry assistance between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., on Mondays to Fridays.
The Massachusetts Appeals Court reviews trial court decisions regarding certain civil and criminal matters. The Appeals Court’s appellate jurisdiction also extends to final decisions by the Commonwealth Employment Relations Board, Appellate Tax Board, and Industrial Accident Board. However, the court does not have jurisdiction over first-degree murder appeals.
